A TALENTED schoolgirl will be helping to raise money to support the heroes who helped save her life.

Maisie Sheridan, 11, has made a full recovery after being involved in an accident in Weymouth last September.

She is now determined to help out the Air Ambulance who helped her and will be singing outside Morrison’s supermarket in Weymouth on May 6 from 2.15pm.

Maisie, who is this year’s Weymouth carnival junior princess, is a talented singer and dancer with Julie Storey’s Let’s Dance performance team. She was walking to practice with friends when she was hit by a van as she crossed Newstead Road.

Two first aiders and an off-duty paramedic came to her aid, and her friend called the emergency services. She was airlifted by the Dorset Air Ambulance to hospital in Southampton and sustained a head injury, a skull fracture, broken eye socket and road burns to her face and stomach.

Maisie has made a full recovery and is determined to help those who helped her.

Mum Ali Cairney described the incident as ‘horrific’ and ‘every parent’s nightmare,’ adding that Maisie was the ‘luckiest little girl alive’ and thanked all those who had helped her.

She said: “Some days I have flashbacks and can’t believe how lucky she is.”

Ali said they had been overwhelmed by the support and help they had received from the community and in particular the Let’s Dance team, who she said were ‘like a family.’

She said: “They are so supportive. They have supported her and encouraged her. She’s very lucky.” Within two weeks of the accident Maisie was back at school and back performing.

The family said they hoped the driver had been able to move on and said it wasn’t their fault as Maisie had ‘misjudged’ it.

Recently Maisie auditioned for the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School in London, and while she did not get the scholarship, she will be returning there in the summer for an experience day.

She has been asked to be Peter Pan at the forthcoming Nothe Fort weekend in April and will be performing in Pirates of the Pavilion and Robin Hood at the Pavilion this summer with the Let’s Dance team.

Maisie recently sang outside TKMaxx in Weymouth and raised £55 for Red Nose Day.

The family are hoping they will also be able to go and meet the air ambulance team soon so Maisie can say thank you in person.
