A team from Dorset County Council are braving the Three Peaks challenge in just under six weeks’ time.

Lauren, Nicki and Terry Maslen, Scott, Stephen and Elizabeth McEleney, Lynn and Allan Reynolds, Paul Seabrook, Ollie Playden, Chris Jackson, Andy Pettman, Jayne Catley and Jake Messer are raising money for Julia’s House and Weymouth Rowing Club.

They team of 14 will climb the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales – Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon – over three days, from May 12 to May 14.

Lauren Maslen is leading the fundraising for the group and is eager for the challenge. She said: “I’m a little nervous, but excited at the same time! We are a group of varying ages. I did the Race for Life last year and raised £800, and I’m trying to keep the fundraising going.”

The team have managed to raise £450 so far, but they are aiming high with a target of £4000.

Lauren said they are raising money by doing dress down days and cake sales at the County Council offices where they work. They are planning to do more fundraising events to reach their goal, and promoting them on social media.

The daunting challenge will see the team tackle over 10,000 feet of ascent and descent.

The group are preparing by doing regular walks, sometimes managing six walks in a week.

The team have been sponsored by local businesses including Travis Parkins, Inside N Out, Adrian Clyne Shutters & Blinds and First Fit Windows. The support from these businesses is helping the team prepare for the challenge.

Lauren said that they have an ‘amazing support group’, but the team are covering their own travel costs and expenses so that funds raised can go towards the charities.
