WITH the clocks gone forward and brighter, sunnier days, many motorcyclist will be keen to dust off the cobwebs and get that bike out of the garage.

The Dorchester and West Dorset Advanced Motorcyclists (DWDAM) is offering motorcyclists the opportunity to refresh their road-riding skills.

Three advanced riding theory presentations will be held at the George Albert Hotel this month.

The two-hour sessions will cover different elements of advanced road-riding skills and techniques.

They will be held on April 12, 19 and 26 from 7pm to 9pm.

Doug Miners, a highly qualified ex-police advanced driving and riding instructor will be presenting the session.

Doug is the IAM RoadSmart Examiner for west Dorset as well as the driver training officer for South West Ambulance Trust (SWAT). Entrance is free and no prior booking necessary.

Riders who attend the presentations will also have the opportunity to take their advanced riding theory knowledge gained a step further by attending a Bikers Skills Day at Weymouth College on May 21, 9am to 5pm. Booking for this event is necessary.

In addition Dorset County Council’s road safety team have teamed up with DWDAM to offer free advanced motorcycling talks and assessed rides to help bikers brush-up and improve their road-riding skills.

They will be held at Weymouth Safewise Centre on Sunday, April 9 and Stalbridge Community Hall on Sunday, June 11.

Both sessions will start at 8.30 am and finish at 1pm.

Prior booking is necessary.

Brian Purnell, DWDAM’s Chairman, highly recommends that motorcyclists take advantage of attending these events.

He said: “All motorcyclists are welcome even if they have already undertaken advanced riding tuition.

“All of us who ride motorcycles have an obligation to brush up and refresh our road riding skills on a regular basis as a momentarily lapse in concentration, anticipation, observation and ride planning can have serious, if not fatal consequences and which in turn effects the lives of many’.
