TERRAS’ caretaker-boss Paul Maitland is expecting to see a “far more energetic” performance, as Weymouth look to end their season on a high at home against promotion-hopefuls Leamington on Saturday (3pm).
First-team goalkeeping coach Maitland, who has stepped into the hot-seat with Mark Molesley on a caretaker basis following the departure of former boss Jason Matthews, was left furious by his side’s lacklustre defeat at Cirencester on Easter Monday.
And, with the game likely to be some of the playing squad’s final appearance in a Weymouth shirt, with a new manager still to be announced, Maitland is looking for a far better effort in their final league fixture.
“Clearly we were disappointed with Monday and I would expect a positive reaction and a far more energetic performance,” he told Echosport.
“With Leamington securing second place, I would envisage that they probably won’t be at full strength because they have a play-off game the following week.
“But we will still need to be at our best to pick up a good result.”
He added: “In my opinion, whether it is your first or your last game for the club, that should make no difference.
“You are there to represent the team you are there to do a job for and you should never give anything less than 100 per cent and that was what angered me on Monday.
“I think it’s really important that we send the supporters off to the summer break with a positive performance rather than sending them off on a down note.”
Skipper Stephane Zubar is set to return to the Weymouth squad following illness.
