Firefighters on Portland were called out twice in an hour to deal with fires at Portland prison.
The retained crew of Portland firefighters were called at 7.06pm yesterday to a fire in a cell at the HMP/YOI Portland. The fire was found to be out when the crew arrived.
Then at 8.06pm the fire service was called again to a fire in a cell back at the prison. The retained Portland crew went back to the prison, but again the fire in the cell was out on arrival. It is unknown if the fires were in the same cell or a different one.
Dorset Police attended both events, but no investigation is currently underway.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Justice said: “Staff put out two small fires at HMP Portland on Monday, April 24.
“There were no injuries to staff or prisoners and the fire service attended as a precaution.”
