PAINTER Jools Woodhouse and potter Ali Herbert have combined their love of creating beautiful items for the home in a new Lyme exhibition.

The pair will be exhibiting together for the first time in Glazed Sky-Traced Earth at the Courtyard Gallery, Town Mill from tomorrow (28) until May 10.

Ali's rich and classic ceramics and Jools' abstracted landscapes complement each other beautifully.

This show is a culmination of both artists' recent discoveries of new styles, colours, forms and influences that have come from living close to the sea.

With a love of graphic art, Jools paints what she sees around her, and as she admits, “around Lyme Regis, there is a wealth of visual treats and stimulus to draw upon. The seasons change and new scenes reveal themselves. Nothing stays the same.”

She likes to work in acrylics, layering as she goes and revealing what’s underneath by scratching and highlighting with coloured pencil.

Ali’s love of simple forms is evident in her ceramics. “I found my true voice as a potter,” she explains, “by immersing myself in the techniques and style of Bernard Leach, and my production pottery training has been a strong foundation for my modern rural pots.”
