WEYMOUTH and Portland District Scouts have celebrated their achievements at an awards ceremony and presentation.

The awards evening was held at St Edmunds Church Hall, where many young people were excited to receive their Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.

These accolades are achieved by a lot of hard work put in by them and their scout leaders.

District Commissioner Sue Woolley said she was overwhelmed by the support the young people had from their family and friends.

After the awards, a presentation of a large cheque to Tall Ship Pelican was made.

The Tall Ship Pelican is a charity sail training vessel based in Weymouth available to people aged from 12 to 80, of all levels of sailing experience.

The money was raised by the scouts from their St George’s Day parade and Christmas carol service collections.

Rose Robson, operations manager of Tall Ship Pelican, thanked the Scouts on behalf of the trust.
