GET the sun cream on and the sunglasses out as it’s warming up in Dorset.

The fine weather is continuing with today expected to see temperatures soar over 20 degrees.

The high temperatures continue into the weekend, but there’s a chance of some scattered, thundery showers too.

Umbrellas may need to be up on Sunday afternoon.

Organisers of all the bank holiday events across Dorset will be hoping the rain stays away.

While people head to the coast and barbecues are fired up, health chiefs are reminding residents enjoying the sun to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and to stay in the shade during the hottest part of the day to avoid heat-related ailments such as sunstroke and sunburn.

The Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) is also offering some timely advice for people heading out.

Around 400 people drown each year in the UK and the hotter summer months typically see a spike in the number of deaths.

RLSS UK’s Deputy Director of Education and Research, Mike Dunn, said the charity wants people to enjoy the weather and water – safely.

He advises being SAFE

Spot – spot the dangers in and around the water

Advice – look out for any safety signs and advice

Friend – stay close to a friend or family member

Emergency – shout for help and dial 999 (112 if you’re holidaying in Europe) Meanwhile, eye health experts are warning of UV dangers with bank holiday solar levels set to soar.

With the Met Office forecasting ‘very high’ UV levels, the sight charity, Eye Health UK, is issuing a stark warning to parents to protect their children’s eyes from the sun or put them at risk of permanent sight loss.
