Emergency services were contacted late last night to search for a missing woman.

The volunteer Swanage coastguard officers were requested to assist Dorset Police with a search just before midnight.

The National Maritime Operations Centre (NMOC) were contacted by Dorset Police asking for assistance in searching for a missing female in the Old Harry area.

The NMOC tasked the coastguard team along with both Swanage RNLI Lifeboats.

On arrival in the Old Harry area the Coastguard team deployed a 'hasty' search of the cliff top and located the woman in a secluded part of the headland.

She was transported safely back to Studland and on to hospital.

All units were back on station just after 2am.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "At around 11.30pm yesterday, Thursday, May 25 2017, we received a call relating to a concern for welfare of a woman who was said to be in the Purbeck area.

"It was later established that the woman was in the area of Old Harry Rocks and police officers attended, along with the Coastguard.

"The woman located and was taken to a place of safety and given appropriate care."
