A WEYMOUTH vessel remains in ship shape thanks to its dedicated team of volunteers.
M.V. Freedom is a vessel that provides an opportunity for people with disabilities, the elderly and young people to experience a trip to sea, are still sailing.
M.V. Freedom is the second vessel to be operated by the charity, Friends of M.V. Freedom, and has been adapted to safely carry a maximum of 12 passengers including six wheelchair spaces.
The boat is moored in Weymouth Harbour and is accessed by ramp opposite the council buildings. She is Skippered and Crewed by trained volunteers.
Five years ago this June, M.V. Freedom was trusted with the honour of carrying the Olympic Torch to mark the start of the 2012 Paralympic sailing events held in Portland Harbour.
The sole intention of the charity is to provide a very special adventure for its passengers. It sails on the stunning Jurassic Coastal waters of Dorset and provides sightseeing, fishing and picnic opportunities.
Trip destinations vary between Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove and Portland Harbour depending on sea conditions. In 2016 the vessel sailed with more than 1,350 passengers and the charity is hoping to increase that number this year.
Only last week the crew and passengers spotted dolphins in their trip.
Crews sail twice a day from Monday to Friday and ask for a £5 donation towards the trips, which last approximately two hours.
