BEING bored just isn't an option this summer, with Artsreach offering a range of activities for young people aged three to 16 over the holidays.

As well as having great fun, children will learn new and imaginative ways of 'going green' as a special recycling theme is running through many of the workshops.

For nine-year-olds and upwards there are two opportunities to work with tools and local woods to make imaginative creations with Karen Hansen - Making Real Games at Wootton Fitzpaine (July 23) and Wooden Beasts and Beauties (Tarrant Gunville, August 10).

Older children (10 years and upwards) can join Magic Drum's Junk Orchestra (Cerne Abbas, August 21) and make drums and percussion instruments out of recycled and reclaimed materials before using them for a drum circle workshop and producing a CD.

Or for slightly younger ones (seven-11-year-olds) Nick Crump will work with children to recycle watery objects - buckets, water tanks, ballcocks, saucepans - and turn them into musical instruments. "You can make a musical instrument out of virtually anything", says Nick. Make It And Play It is at Ansty (August 24) and Fontmell Magna (August 28).

Lal Hitchcock, renowned for her skill in creating wonderful sculptures from found materials, is sharing her skills.

You can have a go at creating your own works of art from junk in Junk Art (Thornford, August 21 or Fontmell Magna, August 22), or discover how to transform plastic bags - the more colourful the better - into flowers - Plastic Flowers (Winterborne Whitechurch, August 20).

Lal is also working with storyteller Pippa Brindley in A Flight Of Fancy (Cranborne, August 23) - make your own character from flotsam, jetsam and many other materials with Lal then weave a story around it as you discover the secrets of storytelling with Pippa.

If you want to have a go at puppet making, don't miss the opportunity to work with PuppetCraft to create beautiful puppets and put on an exhibition of junk that moves!

Move That Junk is at Durweston (August 22) and Evershot (August 23). If you fancy making hand and rod puppets that are born to party you can join Polly Beestone (Laycock) transforming scrap materials into disco divas, breakdancers, teddy boysand letting them boogie as the characters strut their stuff on the dance floor as Party People (Tarrant Gunville, August 30 or Winterborne Whitechurch, August 31).

Noah Messomo has a new workshop - Tubuka, the Giant Rubbish Gobbling Caterpillar.

Dance to native music, play games, music and sport, listen to stories and most important, collect that junk and feed it to Tubuka while listening to the captivating rhythm of the drums (Wintereborne Whitechurch, July 25).

Those who fancy a fun day of dance, drama and painting can join Nikki Northover's Ocean Commotion (Ibberton, August 28 or Evershot, August 29).

If dance is your thing don't miss Pure Funk's workshops - Poppin' and Lockin' at Durweston (July 23) and Street Dance at Martinstown (August 14). And there's a whole range of workshops led by Claire Camble-Hutchins - High School Musical, Weather, Jungle Fever, Peter Pan and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
