A weekend of events and activities will be held to celebrate the 30th anniversary of a nature reserve.

Dorset Wildlife Trust's (DWT's) Kingcombe Meadows Nature Reserve will be celebrating its significant anniversary this weekend.

On Saturday, there will be a flowers, folklore and fields walk with DWT conservation officer and wildflower expert, Nick Gray.

The walk promises to be entertaining and interesting, where visitors can learn about the array of local folklore in the species-rich pastures and hay meadows that make Kingcombe so special.

Nick will also talk about the history of the wildflower names, such as ‘bacon and egg’s and ‘bellies and bums’.

It will be held from 2pm to 4.30pm and booking is essential.

The Kingcombe Travelling Show will also be performed at the Kingcombe Centre on both Saturday and Sunday at 11.30am, 1pm and 3pm.

Entrance to the show is free.

As an outdoor performance suitable for all ages, the Kingcombe Travelling Show tells the story of a unique family who love nature and use street dance, live music and puppetry to celebrate the bees, bats and wildflowers of the countryside.

On Sunday the nature reserve will be celebrating with a Summer Fayre, with stalls and local crafts and produce and family activities.

The Kingcombe Tea Rooms will also be open, serving up snacks and refreshments, including a barbecue, ice creams, and there will also be a bar for the adults.

DWT's communications officer, Sally Welbourn, said: “Kingcombe is proud to play an important part of the local community, and we’re looking forward to welcoming visitors from closer to home, as well as from afar.

"It will be a great family day out, and a chance to explore the hidden gems in west Dorset."
