Firefighters were called to a blaze at a historic henge.
Crews from Dorchester were called to the fire at Maumbury Rings at around 11:30am on Sunday.
An area of 25 by five metres was alight when crews arrived, and the flames were extinguished using a hose reel jet and beaters.
A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: "The cause of this fire is unknown, however it could easily have been started by a carelessly discarded cigarette.
"Members of the public are reminded to ensure cigarette butts are properly extinguished and disposed of, especially during periods of hot and dry weather like today."
