Firefighters called to a top floor flat after residents reported seeing smoke pouring out of the window found it to be a vaping 'hotbox' and not a fire.

Three engines from Dorchester and Maiden Newton rushed to the flat in Queen Mother Square, Poundbury, just after 12:30pm on Sunday, and crews broke down the door to enter the flat after hearing no response.

Inside they found a flat full of 'vape' smoke and 'confused' occupants.

Firefighters are now urging residents to be more aware of letting out large amounts of smoke when vaping.

A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: "Amongst vape inhalers they also had a modified vape type of machine which had effectively turned the room inside the flat into, for want of a better phrase, a hotbox.

"If you are using vape or smoking materials, be considerate of others, try to think of the concern and panic that can be caused by large amounts of smoke and the consequences of having three fire engines tied up when we could be busy elsewhere."
