A SIX-YEAR-OLD girl is lopping off her locks in a charity chop.

Symondsbury School pupil Chaise Lannon, has decided to cut her long hair and donate it to the Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs to children with cancer to help them cope when they lose their hair.

Chaise is set to face the chop on Thursday at Mango Hair in Bridport, which will cut off her 12 inches of hair, free of charge.

Chaise's mum, Chelle Barnes, said: "Chaise never ceases to amaze us by how big and kind her heart is and she's always been fortunate to have lovely long hair.

"About a year ago, Chaise decided she wanted to have her hair cut short but rather than see her long hair end up in the bin, she decided that she would continue growing it and that when it reached the bottom of her back she would then have it cut, so that she could donate it to the little Princess Trust to be made into a wig so that another girl or boy her words could have nice hair like hers."

She added: "As parents, we are incredibly proud of her and the decision she has made to help and support this wonderful cause.

"We are overwhelmed at the sponsorship she's received in aid of the charity and are really grateful to the support of the owner and staff at Mango, as well as her school".

Chaise's efforts will form part of Symondsbury School's '100 ways to change the world' project which involves the children's charitable and community activities recorded and celebrated, as well as being shared with the global 'WE movement' joining together those that want to make a positive difference.

Children at the school have supported their friend by running a messy hair day, aiming to raise additional sponsorship.

Symondsbury School headteacher, Emma Roberts, said: "We are very proud of Chaise.

"What an amazing thing for someone so young to choose to do. This year we've seen our pupils do a whole range of inspiring charitable work, including sponsored runs and walks, cake sales and voluntary work and so Chaise's brilliant effort will round off our school year fantastically."
