The ribbon has been cut to celebrate the opening of the first homes on a new housing development in Weymouth.

The first six houses at the Lorton Park development off Lorton Lane at Broadwey were officially opened by the Mayor of Weymouth and Portland Councillor Kevin Brookes.

Eventually 46 houses will be built on the site, with a target finish date of 2020.

The next stage of work will see a further 10 homes built, which should be ready early next year.

Cllr Brookes was a member of the planning committee that approved the development and said it has been ‘great’ to see it unfold.

He said: “It seems like an age since we received the planning application in 2015. I have been on the local planning committee and we got to see the whole thing unfold. It has been really great to see the whole process from start to finish.

“I think once the whole development is finished it really will look good. Any new housing, we can get into the system has to be a good thing.”

Malcolm Curtis, the director of Redhale Holdings – one of the companies involved in the development – said the project is ‘shaping up brilliantly.’
He added: “We are looking forward to seeing this quality of design and build continue through in to phase two.”

Liam and Rebecca Miles recently moved into one of the new homes.

They said: “We have monitored the build through the various stages, our excitement growing as each week passed. We are delighted to now be in our new home and it is proving to be everything and more.”
