A POLICE officer has been injured during an arrest following a pursuit in Weymouth.

Dorset Police said it came after officers pursued a van which failed to stop for them. A police car was damaged in the incident.

Two men were arrested and a search is underway for a third person.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: "At around 6am today, Tuesday, a white Citroen van containing three occupants failed to stop for officers in Dorchester Road in Weymouth.

"The vehicle was found abandoned in Nottington Lane.

"Two local men aged 22 and 60 have been arrested and are currently assisting officers with their enquiries.

"Officers are currently searching the area for the remaining occupant.

"A police officer sustained injuries during the incident and has been taken to hospital for treatment. His family have been informed.

"A police car was also damaged in the incident."

Earlier, Nottington Lane was partially blocked both ways shortly after 7am because of the police incident near to the junction with Dorchester Road.

A heavy police presence was reported in the area.

At around the same time, disturbances on a nearby caravan site were also reported.

Officers have confirmed that they are investigating both incidents in connection.

Several police officers were seen at the site as well as a forensic team.

Before midday, Dorset Police confirmed that the 60-year-old man has been released without charge and they are still searching for another suspect.
