Escape the hustle and bustle and take a moment to remember a loved one this summer.

Weldmar Hospicecare is hosting its annual Sunflower Memories service in August – only this year it will take place at a new location.

This year’s sunflowers will be placed in Greenhill Gardens in Weymouth.

Close to Trimar, the flowers’ new home will overlook Weymouth Bay.

Each year, hundreds of people remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones through sunflowers sponsored in their name.

The appeal enables families, friends and supporters of Weldmar to give donations in memory of a loved one and raises vital funds for Weldmar’s work.

It encourages people to dedicate a sunflower to a loved one, creating a sea of yellow in memory of those who have died.

Sunflower Memories is for everyone and not just for patients and families Weldmar has helped.

Chairman of the Friends of Greenhill Gardens (FOGG) Barbara Dubben said: “We must support the charity in any way we can. Weldmar is such a good charity. Everyone is welcome to come along to the service and have a look.”

Joy Stanley, a member of FOGG and Weldmar volunteer, said: “It’s a wonderful idea and a good way to raise money for Weldmar and that’s what’s needed. Without the public’s support it would be very difficult to run the hospice.”

The Sunflower Memories service will take place at the gardens on Thursday, August 24 at 6.30pm.

All are welcome to attend and everyone for whom a donation is made will be remembered by the sunflowers; and their names will be recorded on the charity’s Sunflower Memory Board.

Caroline Hamblett, Weldmar’s chief executive said: “If you are missing someone this summer, our service offers a way to remember them in the most magical and moving way, by helping to create a sea of sunflowers. Your continued support enables us to be here to provide vital services to local people at the time when they need us most.”
