ONCE again, a bumper week ahead of live music and a veritable smorgasbord of genres to suit even the most outré of tastes.

Kicking off tonight, Friday, July 28, at Finns in Weymouth and it’s another evening of moshtastic metal headlined by Weymouth’s very own Fissure of Riddles.

The band have been busy recording their new album and plan to tour it later this year, they tell me.

A quick look at the band’s FB page and it’s evident they have adopted the Friends-style of naming episodes when it comes to giving their songs titles.

I for one can’t wait to hear The One That’s Got Bongos On It, or, The One That’s A Wall Of Noise Shoegaze Monkey Smash.

They’re also finalising a beer endorsement deal and I’ve been lucky enough to sample some: It has a very metallic taste with smokey notes of impending doom. You’ll love it.

Also appearing tonight are London sludge merchants My Bitter Half, Bristol-based axe wizards Altitudes and the curiously-named aAnnd?, who specialise in Morph suits and farmyard noises, apparently.

Doors open at 7pm and it’s free to get it but heaven knows how much to get out.

Moving on, the phenomenon that is the And Finally, Phil Collins tribute show is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a UK tour which comes to the Weymouth Pavilion on Sunday, July 30.

The 11-piece band, which includes the And Finally Horns, have had an amazing decade, touring packed venues across the UK and Europe with their tribute to the diminutive left-handed tub thumper’s solo work and Genesis catalogue.

And it’ll be a hometown gig for several of the band who have strong local links: That’ll be Dave Phillips, Rhea Soulsby, Eddie Harper and show producer Tim Harper.

They’ve picked up the Best Tribute Act award from the top-notch Agents Association for the second year on the spin and are very much the real deal.

Tickets are £21.50 from the box office on 01305 783225.

And it’s the Warm Festival in Dorchester’s Borough Gardens on Sunday, July 30. Jilly Ann gets the party started from 12.30, with Neil Coad, Sixteen String Jack, Edd Bleach and Vanilla Radio all helping raise money for the Stevie Charles Help a Friend charity.

And finally, next Saturday, August 5, it’s OsFest, a great day out and a fundraiser for local causes in the delightful village of Osmington.

There’s all the usual shizzle you can expect at a village fun day and a great line-up of live music, including Elfentale, Raising Kaine, The Cronk Brothers, and amazingly, all the way from America, guitar legend Brooks Williams.

He’s rated as one of the top 100 axe-swingers in the flippin’ world and it’s quite a coup for the organisers to land the finger-pickin’ giant with a terrific voice and easy-goin’ stage presence.

While it’s free entry for the day, tickets for Brooks’s gig, which will be in the village hall from 7.30pm, are just £9 and are available from wegottickets.com or 07816 832554. Right, that’s it. I’m off to celebrate winning the bet that I could get smorgasbord, genre and outré in my intro.

Till next time…
