The coastal path linking West Bay and Freshwater has reopened.

As reported in June, heavy rain has triggered a huge cliff fall at West Bay - the second in the space of a week.

The cliff fall occurred at East Beach, covered the beach and took away a section of the cliff path.

The coast path has remained closed ever since.

A spokesman for West Bay Coastguard said: "We have been informed this morning by the council countryside rangers team that the coastal path linking West Bay and Freshwater has now reopened and the fencing at the base of the cliff has been removed.

"The route now includes a short diversion into the golf course avoiding damage caused by the recent cliff fall.

"When walking on our coastline, Coastguard advice remains clear: Keep well away from the edge and base of the cliffs, keep your children within reach and always walk your dog on a lead.

"Do not approach the edge of the cliff trying to take the perfect 'selfie'. No photograph is worth risking your life.

"Have a great summer but in a cliff or coastal emergency DIAL 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
