A town councillor is urging the public to make use of its newly-located Tourist Information Centre.

Dorchester's TIC officially opened in its new and shiny premises at the town's Library and Learning Centre early this year.

It followed a passionate campaign from the community to keep the service at its central site in Antelope Walk.

Dorchester town and district councillor, David Taylor, who was part of the campaign to keep the Tourist Information Centre in Antelope Walk, said that although their campaign was lost, it is important for people to continue to support the service.

He said: "It would have been great for the service to stay in such a central location, but this was still a better decision than an unmanned information point.

"The service is being used more and more and hopefully this will continue so that the service can remain in the library.

"It was a huge move for the council but we want the TIC to be used more frequently.

"A lot of people are unaware it has moved to the library, so shout it from the rooftops.

"We also need more signage in the area to direct people to its new location."

West Dorset District Council says the move to the library, located next to South Walks House, will save around £80,000 a year.

Before the relocation, a number of concerns were raised about the range of services to be offered but Cllr Taylor said almost all of the offerings provided in Antelope Walk are provided in the library.

The only area effected is the retail sales of things such as souvenirs and locally produced goods.

Cllr Taylor added: "We don't want to lose this service so use it, use it, use it.

"It is being kept under review and we don't want to give the council a reason for it to be cut - our town needs a TIC."
