Family and friends of a brave teen who lost his battle with cancer are organising an array of fundraisers to give back to the charity that helped him.

Seán Entwistle, 17, from Weymouth, sadly died in April this year after losing a battle with Burkitt’s lymphoma, a rare cancer.

He was diagnosed with the disease in May 2016, just months after losing his father in 2015.

Following chemotherapy, it looked like Seán had beaten the disease. However, it came back and more chemotherapy and surgery followed, when it looked like he had beaten it once again.

However, the disease returned for the third time in January when doctors deemed it to be terminal.

Seán was sent to the Kingfisher Ward at Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester. He was given a solitary room provided by Gully’s Place for terminally ill patients, where he stayed for the final week of his life.

Family and friends organised a Happy Days appeal in March to raise funds so that Seán could complete his bucket list, including going to Bashley Holiday Park one last time, where he had been going since he was a child.

Now his family and close friends are organising another fun day at the Wyke Smugglers pub on October 28 to give back to Gully’s Place in Seán’s memory.

Seán’s mum Elaine Byrne said: “Dr Wiley, Emma, Hillary, who all attended his funeral and keep in contact, provided the most caring, compassionate and loving care to Seán in his final hours, and I can never thank them enough for everything they have done. This is why we want to hold this fundraiser.

“Everyone has been absolutely brilliant, the whole of Wyke has come together.”

Christine Paddock, who organised Happy Days, said: “We want it to be an all day event. We will be putting on a Hallowe’en party in the day for children, and in the evening we are hoping some local bands will perform.

"We are also appealing for some cast members from the Christmas pantomime at Weymouth Pavilion to come up and join in.”

The group are also appealing for local people and businesses to donate prizes to a raffle which will take place on the day, as well as cakes for a bake sale.

Alongside the fun day, Elaine, Seán’s partner Eboni, and close friend Ami Stewart, will be taking part in a dizzying skydive on October 26 to raise money for the charity.

A sponsored walk from Portland Bill to Wyke Smugglers will also take place on October 28, where everyone is welcome to take part.

Sponsorship forms for the walk are being given out in the pub.
