Trains were at a standstill and a road was closed after a vehicle hit a rail bridge.
South West Trains services were at a stand at Crewkerne station after a vehicle hit the rail bridge on the A356 Station Road at around 8.45am this morning.
The road was closed both ways between Cathole Bridge Road and Kithill.
It has since reopened.
South West Trains has advised that services may be delayed or revised, and disruption is expected until 6pm today.
Tickets are being accepted on Great Western Railway services from Exeter to Paddington, and on Stagecoach buses from Exeter to Axminster and Honiton on route 4 and 9 services.
Engineering staff assessed the damage to the bridge.
Traffic was moving slowly in the area, but has returned to normal.
