Dorset councils are offering a chance to win £1,000, just by completing your register to vote form online. 

The prize draw was launched by North Dorset District Council, West Dorset District Council and Weymouth and Portland Borough Council to encourage people to return their register to vote form online. 

By completing their details online, residents saved the councils £27,000 in last year's canvass. 

The initiative will help ensure the electoral register is up-to-date and identify residents who are not registered to vote so they can be encouraged to do so.

Households in North Dorset, West Dorset, Weymouth and Portland will soon receive a letter asking residents to check the information appearing on the electoral register is correct.

Matt Prosser, Electoral Registration Officer for the Dorset Councils Partnership, which supports the councils, said: “Anyone who wants to vote must be registered. To make sure you are able to have your say at future elections, simply check the details and let us know whether it’s correct using the online link or by text.”

For your chance to win £1,000, all you need to do is respond online or by text by Friday, September 8 and each person mentioned on your form will be automatically entered into the prize draw.

You can do this online at www.householdresponse.com/westwey for West Dorset and Weymouth and Portland residents, and www.householdresponse.com/northdorset for North Dorset residents.

Details for responding by text and telephone services are printed on page one of the form and competition terms and conditions can be found on the back of forms sent to each household, as well as on dorsetforyou.gov.uk 

If you are not currently registered to vote, information explaining how to register will be sent out to households or go online to apply to register at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

To be eligible to register to vote in England you must be aged 16 or over and a British or qualifying Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of the Republic of Ireland or other European Union member state.
