Brand new lifesaving equipment has been installed in three community locations across Chickerell following a successful fundraising campaign.

Defibrillators have been installed at Chickerell Community Library, Charlestown Victory Hall and Willowbed Hall to provide 24-hour emergency support.

The defibrillator at Willowbed Hall was fitted after donations from the community were so generous towards the installation at Chickerell

Primary Academy, the school felt they would like to contribute back and support the installation of an additional unit.

Working with Chickerell Town Council, which have funded a secure external cabinet to house the defibrillator, premises for installation and future maintenance, the school’s funds will provide the town with a 24-hour accessible Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

In partnership with Chickerell Community Library and Charlestown Victory Hall, the town council was able to further the project, receiving support from Spirit of Chickerell and Medisave to install two further external defibrillators at both locations.

Councillor John Dean, Mayor of Chickerell said: “This project has been hugely successful and demonstrates what our community can achieve. I am very grateful to all those involved who have fundraised and been supportive.

“The financial support provided by Chickerell Town Council who funded the purchase and installation of all three cabinets and that of the Spirit of Chickerell funding the defibrillator equipment at the Library is wonderful.

“Thanks also to Medisave who were a major part of the project, providing professional advice and community rates for suitable equipment.”

The British Heart Foundation defines a defibrillator as a device that gives a high energy electric shock to the heart through the chest wall to someone who is in cardiac arrest.

Defibrillators can be critical in the event of medical need and are an essential piece of lifesaving equipment.

Willowbed Hall will be hosting a community awareness event on Tuesday August 22. All are welcome to attend the drop-in sessions between 4.30pm and 5.30pm to see the defibrillator training equipment and how it works.
