THE Red Arrows took to the skies across Weymouth Bay to the delight of thousands who watched from below.

A highlight of carnival day, the ‘Reds’ returned yesterday afternoon to wow the crowds with their spectacular display in weather perfect conditions.

The Red Arrows Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team is the world’s premier aerobatic display team and a regular site to be spotted soaring above the skies of Weymouth Carnival.

Following yesterday’s last-minute cancellation of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, the distinctive Hawk jets swooped to the sky to rapturous applause from the beach and Esplanade.

Portland historian Stuart Morris headed up to the Verne to capture the video on camera.

He said: “Up at the top of the Verne in Portland is a superb vantage point to watch the Red Arrows.

“Obviously it’s some way off so you do need binoculars or a camera as I had but it was a fine display. I think there were a couple of new manoeuvres this year which I haven’t seen before and, of course, the weather was perfect for it.”

“It’s an incredibly skilled performance and always nice to see and record it. Filming from a distance also meant I was able to get the arrows with some of Weymouth in the frame as well.”
