A SELECTION of contemporary films hailing from all over the globe will be shown as part of Bridport Film Society's 53rd season.

Countries represented in 2017/18 include, New Zealand, Brazil, France, Romania, Sweden and more.

There are many films released each year. Difficult choices have to be made by the committee, who spend many hours watching, deliberating and deciding on which ones will make the cut. This season’s selection is diverse and covers a range of genres.

On September 26 the Hunt for the Wilderpeople from New Zealand will be opening the season. This heart-warming film sets the bar high but members will not be disappointed by the committee’s choice for the remaining eleven films.

Featured on the front of this year’s programme is Embrace the Serpent, an award winning adventure drama shot in black and white, following two scientists independently travelling up the Amazon in their search for a sacred healing plant. Directed by Ciro Guerra, this film is a Spanish/Portuguese/Aboriginal collaboration.

My Life as A Courgette is the last film of the season. A stop motion animation, it is the story of a young boy sent to live in a children’s home. Since its debut at Cannes in 2016 this film has stirred up an overwhelming response on the festival circuit.

Full details for the season can be found at bridportfilmsociety.co.uk and printed brochures are available from the Bridport Arts Centre, The Bookshop, Fruits of the Earth and from the society's stall outside the arts centre on Saturday August 26 from 10am until 12.30pm. Full season membership costs £35 and typically reaches its capacity of 200 members some time before the season begins.
