THE ULTIMATE BEATLES TRIBUTE SHOW

WEYMOUTH PAVILION

FOUR men pretending to be John, Paul, George and Ringo while they are performing iconic Beatles hits from the 60s, what more could an audience of oldies ask for?

There was certainly a whole lot of singing going on during a nostalgic evening of music that recaptured the heady days of rock ‘n roll, flares and funny hair in a show that demonstrated just how talented the Liverpool lads were.

And if the boys’ Scouse accents disappeared after about 20 minutes on stage, everybody forgave them for what must have been a hard day’s night when all you need is love. Their instrumental talent was certainly impressive and the group beautifully captured the harmony and style of the fab four which more than made up for the occasional flat note and corny joke.

Not so memorable was the continuous video projector screenings throughout the show of what proved to be a completely disastrous choice of pointless images. Repetitive and out of focus crowd scenes that could have come from anywhere were shown on a screen that was not much bigger than a family television set, not a good idea for a sizeable theatre that not even all my loving could not excuse and certainly not for a ticket to ride.

But as the evergreen hit songs just kept coming and the audience joined in, the evening proved to be a good way of remembering a time when pop really did have a snap and crackle.
