A pod of twenty dolphins were spotted swimming off the Isle of Portland.

Dan Bell, owner of Jurassic Jet Ski Tours, was taking people out on a Jet Ski trip when he and his group sighted the large group of dolphins between Grove Point and Church Ope Cove.

He said: “We could see these dolphin fins so I got the customers to slow right down and as we got closer they were towards us. So we stopped and they were swimming all around us and under us.”

Dan Bell has seen lone dolphins swimming off the coast before, but never such a large pod as this one.

He said: “To see that many around you are unsure what to do really.”

Dan added that one of his group was celebrating their birthday on the trip and said they were “delighted” by the special encounter – as was the rest of the group.

He said: “They were over the moon. It really made their day.”

After spending about ten to fifteen minutes with the dolphins, the jet skiers headed back to Weymouth, while the Dolphins swam off towards Portland Bill.
