Youngsters are being encouraged to get their art palettes out and get creative in a new competition that could see a world-famous artist up on their wall.

Dorchester Art Gallery has recently opened as a new art venue in Brewery Square and includes artwork by Tom Butler, Fabian Perez, Sherree Valentine, Jennifer Hogwood and Simon Kenny.

The gallery will be hosting a grand opening on Sunday, October 1 where world-famous artist Doug Hyde will be the guest of honour.

To celebrate his appearance, owners Hannah Webster and her partner Geoff Wick, want to see pieces of art from youngsters, inspired by Mr Hyde.

Hannah said: "We have exclusive rights by his studio to represent him in this area.

"Mr Hyde us currently touring the UK and is stopping here in Dorchester.

"I am a massive fan of his work and I can't believe he will be coming here.

"The winner of the competition will be chosen by Mr Hyde himself and will receive a £375 voucher towards a piece of artwork by Mr Hyde.

"Three runners up will also receive prizes."

Hannah, who lives in Weymouth, decided to open up a gallery in Dorchester because she loved the feel of Brewery Square.

The gallery also sells numerous sculptures and has a 'life-like' living room so potential buyers can envision what the artwork could look like on their own walls.

Hannah added: "The business is doing really well, I'm really happy. We've exceeded our predicted sales already.

"Looking to the future we would love to get more artists coming to visit the gallery and run similar competitions to get other art lovers involved."
