BACK for its 22nd year, Weldmar’s annual Summer Fete returns to Dorchester this weekend.

The popular event attracts thousands of visitors every year, raising more than £25,000 on average for Weldmar Hospicecare and organisers say that this year is going to be bigger than ever before.

Matt Smith, Weldmar’s head of fundraising said: “This is such a fantastic event that is one of our flagship events that we hold throughout the year. The whole organisation gets involved including the patients who enjoy the day out with their family members too.

“This year we have introduced some new attractions such as a Punch and Judy show as well as being joined by Dorset Fire and Rescue Service and balloon modellers.

“It is one of those occasions where we open our grounds to the public and welcome everyone to have a great family day out whilst being assured that their money is making a massive difference to people right here in our community.”

More than 45 stalls and attractions will take over the hospice grounds including bric a brac, books, homemade cakes, hand crafted items and jewellery.

If games are more your idea of fun crockery smashing, coconut shies, classic TV gameshows and tombola will keep children and adults alike entertained.

There will also be more than 60 amazing lots will be up for grabs in Weldmar’s Silent Auction with items donated by Lesley Waters, Martin Clunes, Sara Cox, Julian Clarey, Julian Fellowes and more.

Martin Clunes will also be at the fete will be spending the day thanking volunteers, meeting fans and visiting the patients who are staying at the hospice.

Matt added: “Martin and his wife Philippa are fantastic supporters of our cause and we are delighted that they are able to join us again this year.”

If all that entertainment works up an appetite, there is plenty of food and drink to keep you fuelled including cream teas, barbecue, curry, a licensed bar, ice creams and much more.

The fete will be held in the grounds of Joseph Weld Hospice in Dorchester on Saturday, September 9.

There will be a free park and ride facility from Dorchester Town Football Club with strictly no parking on site at the hospice or on parts of Herringston Road.

The fete runs from 11am until 4pm and entrance is £2 for adults and children go free.

All proceeds will be donated to Weldmar Hospicecare to continue providing care to patients and their loved ones across Dorset.
