Coastguards were called to assist police in searching for a vulnerable person missing in Weymouth.

Wyke Coastguards were paged at 4.27pm yesterday (6).

RNLI lifeguards in Weymouth and west Dorset had been made aware of the missing person, and conducted a shoreline and Beach search based on information provided by Dorset Police.

The Wyke team were requested to attend and continue further searches.

The man was from Wiltshire and aged in his 40s.

When on scene, the Wyke station officer attended the lifeguard tower, and obtained current search details, and reported the team's intentions to the NMOC.

When at the lifeguard tower, news came through that the casualty in question may be heading back towards their accommodation at a local hotel.

The Wyke MRU proceeded to the specified address, and upon arrival were updated with news that the casualty had been located at Greenhill Gardens by Dorset Police.

With confirmation the casualty was safe and well, all teams were stood down and proceeded to return to base.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "We received a call at 1.50pm to reports that the man may be in the Weymouth area.

"A search was carried out and he was located at about 5pm.

"He was taken to hospital to receive the appropriate care."
