THE community came out in force to show support for the mum of a ‘beautiful’ little boy who passed away last year.

Riley Blaker died in June 2016, aged just five, after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour.

Following his diagnosis, his mum Adele, who lives in Weymouth, appealed to the public to help cover the cost of experimental treatment to give her and husband Brian the chance to make memories with their son.

Tens of thousands of pounds were raised overnight, but sadly, despite the treatment, Riley passed away.

Determined to raise awareness of Riley’s condition - diffuse intrinsic pontine gliomas (DIPG), a type of aggressive brain tumour which is difficult to treat - Adele organised Riley's Red Racers and yesterday (SUN) hundreds of people turned out to show their support.

The sponsored scoot between Weymouth Pavilion and the Jubilee Clock helped raised vital funds for charities the Lexi May Trust and Abbie's Army, both of which raise money for research into DIPG and also provide practical support for parents and families.

Following the scoot, a family fun day was held at the Pavillion, where there was children’s entertainment including a bouncy castle, face painting, an ice princess, Minions and soft play.

Speaking at the event, Adele said: "It has been amazing. We had a good turnout for the scoot and lot of families at the fun day. We've been able to raise awareness by sharing Riley's story.

"I had four goals. One was to do this in Riley's memory. He inspired me so much in his short life and that pushed me to go on and do this. I also wanted to give back to the community who supported us so much. I wanted to raise awareness of DIPG as it is so rare and, finally, I wanted to raise money for the Lexi May Trust and Abbie's Army as they are both parent-led charities that were started by parents who have lost a child to DIPG.

"All the support we have had from local businesses, family and friends - I could not have done anything without it. It's been amazing."
