Beer lovers will be raising a glass in memory of a Weymouth man as a new craft beer festival comes to the town.

A charity craft beer festival will be held in Weymouth to raise funds for Brain Tumour Support in memory of local, Mark Martin.

Elaine Milton, festival organiser, said: “Mark was a lovely man and a good friend, and we want to make this festival something he would have thoroughly enjoyed.”

Mark, from Wyke Regis, tragically died aged just 36 of an aggressive form of brain cancer, glioblastoma multiforme.

The event will take place at the Wyke Smugglers pub on what would have been his 41st birthday.

Mark could often be found at local beer festivals and Elaine said they chose the venue as Mark was a ‘Wyke man’ who was much loved in the area.

“He would have loved to have been there for sure,” she said.

The first Weymouth Craft Beer Festival will showcase 18 beers and four ciders by small independent breweries from across the UK.

“This festival will bring fresh and exciting craft beer to Weymouth from high quality independent breweries rarely seen in the area.

“We are hoping to offer something new and different from other festivals, and raise plenty of money for charity at the same time,” Elaine said.

Weymouth Craft Beer Festival will run over the weekend of March 17 and 18 2018 and will kick off a midday and finish at last call.

The event will be raising funds for Brain Tumour Support which provides support for patients, families and carers so that no-one feels alone facing the effects of a brain tumour diagnosis.

Tickets for the Saturday session cost £5 to include a commemorative glass and tickets will not be needed for the Sunday session.

To book online head to www.facebook.com/weycraftbeer/ and tickets will be available to purchase from the Wyke Smugglers from November 1.
