The A31 has been closed both ways due to a fallen tree on the road.
The road has been closed since around 1.30am between B3078 Wimborne Road (Lake Gates roundabout) and A350 Poole Road (Roundhouse Roundabout, Sturminster Marshall).
Dorset Police were called to the scene at 1.07am.
A spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a tree down on the A31 near to Candys Lane in Corfe Mullen.
"A large tree had come down onto the A31 blocking both carriageways.
"Road closures were put in place at Roundhouse RAB and local authority are organising the removal of the tree. At 4am we were informed the road was likely to have been closed for another 2/3 hours."
Traffic has been affected on the main route between Wimborne Minster and Bere Regis and is being diverted locally via the A350 and A439.
A specialist chainsaw crew are at the scene and are removing the tree.
