A mother is appealing for witnesses after her son's newly bought bike was stolen from a garden.

15-year-old Luke Orchard was visiting his girlfriend's house in Louviers Road in Weymouth and left his new birthday gift in her garden overnight.

Waking up the next morning he discovered it had been taken.

His mother, Susanne, said he is "devastated" by it.

She said: "He had only had it a few weeks. His dad and I had bought it for his 15th birthday but he had it a few weeks early because he wanted to use it in the summer holidays.

"It put a huge downer on his birthday. It's something me and his dad had to save up for too, and the fact that someone has just taken it is so frustrating.

"We're hoping someone must have seen something. It is a Carrera Vengeance mountain bike in dark grey."

Mrs Orchard added: "The bike wasn't locked up, and I know and he knows it should have been, but that still doesn't make it okay for someone to take it."

The bike was stolen sometime overnight on Saturday, September 23.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "We received a call at 9.47am on Monday, September 25 to reports of a theft of a pedal bike.

"It was stolen sometime between 5pm and midnight on Saturday, September 23.

"No arrests have been made."

Witnesses or anyone with information is urged to contact Dorset Police on 101 or via their website, dorset.police.uk, quoting crime number 55170149382.
