Detectives investigating an alleged assault on a bus driver in Sherborne are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police were called to the incident on the A30 involving a Nippy Bus double-decker school bus and a black BMW 1 Series at 8.37am yesterday (Thursday).

It was reported the driver of the car came out of his vehicle and entered the bus before hitting the victim.

The bus driver sustained facial injuries and a wound to his arm and was taken to hospital.

Detective Constable Rhys Griffiths, of Western CID, said: “I would like to reassure the public that none of the school children on the bus were physically affected by the incident and we have made a number of enquiries today to establish what exactly happened.

“I am appealing for any witnesses to this incident, or anyone who witnessed the driving of either vehicle prior to the incident, to come forward and contact police.”

Police said yesterday that a 24-year-old man from the Yeovil area had been arrested on suspicion of assault. He has now been released under investigation, but officers say they are still appealing for witnesses.
