A Dorchester business is raffling off an unique sculpture by the UK's most collectable artist.

Dorchester Art Gallery, located in Brewery Square, has only recently opened but is already making its mark in the town.

Internationally acclaimed artist Doug Hyde officially opened the new art gallery last month with a ribbon cutting.

Named the UK’s best-selling published artist he has also been dubbed the ‘nation’s favourite artist’, famous for his iconic smiley faces and oversized hearts - work which is showcased in the Dorchester Art Gallery.

Owners of the gallery, Hannah Webster and Geoff Wick, are now raffling off a Children in Need Pudsey sculpture by Doug with all sales going directly to the BBC's Children in Need appeal.

Hannah and Geoff are therefore encouraging art lovers of all ages to pop into the store and buy a raffle ticket.

Hannah said: "We ran a drawing competition when we first launched and we wanted to keep that buzz going, so we thought it would be nice to do something to support a good cause.

"Doug Hyde is such a popular artist so we have already had a lot of people coming in for tickets and raised more than £100. Our target we are hoping to reach is £500 but we need the public's help."

The art gallery is also offering a Doug Hyde Pudsey painting at a discounted price with a percentage also going to Children in Need.

Miss Webster, a former property manager who lives in Weymouth, said she has always been a keen art collector and dreamt of opening a gallery - with Doug Hyde being a massive inspiration.

The modern space features work from a range of top-selling artists including Fabian Perez, Simon Kenny and Dorset-based Rebecca Lardner.

Raffle tickets cost £1 for one of £5 for a strip and can be purchased up until Friday, November 17.
