A GP practice has launched a walking scheme in efforts to encourage its patients to enjoy a more active lifestyle.

The Tollerford Practice has a very successful Patient Participation Group (PPG) which has recently launched a Walking for Health scheme for its patients.

The aim of this initiative is to help and encourage patients to enjoy a more active lifestyle with a social half hour walk and chat over refreshments at the surgery afterwards.

Walking for Health is a national scheme where walking groups are led by friendly, specially trained volunteers who are on hand to provide encouragement and support.

The first walk was held at Tunnel Road Surgery in Beaminster on an autumnal Wednesday with the walk led by Joyce Rendell and supported by Brian Earl.

The first walk was attended by PPG members, practice Staff and other patients.

The walk was a resounding success with participants able to enjoy the beautiful town walk, learn more about the local area and make new friends.

The group also enjoyed refreshments back at the surgery after the walk.

The PPG have since been walking on alternative weeks and are encouraging more patients to get involved.

The walks are being held at Tunnel Road Surgery, Beaminster and Pound Piece Surgery, Maiden Newton on alternating weeks.
