There is a ‘general level of support’ for Weymouth BID, councillors will be told today (23).

A report set to go before a meeting of Weymouth and Portland’s scrutiny and performance committee will set out the evidence gathered in a review of the organisation.

Cllr Kate Wheller called for the review last year, citing that some issues with the BID had been highlighted by a number of people and businesses.

The working group which carried out the review spoke to Nigel Reed, manager of the BID until September this year, chairman Steve Newstead and communications director Ian Ferguson, as well as borough councillors and officers. Surveys were also sent to all Weymouth BID levy payers, with 52 responses received out of 606.

While noting that even levy payers who have expressed concerns supported the principle of Weymouth having a BID, and that there will ‘always be a proportion of people who are not happy’, the review has highlighted areas for consideration and made recommendations which will now be discussed by the committee, including improved communication.

But in a ‘note’ to levy payers, the review states that businesses should be aware that they can contact the BID to get more involved in activities, and visit the website for information.

The review will be discussed at the meeting at the Mulberry Centre tonight at 6.30pm. Recommendations will be passed to the management committee for approval.
