THE annual Christmas Tree Festival has returned to Hope United Reformed Church.

The church, which is based in Brewers Quay in Weymouth, has been filled with miniature pine trees illuminated with sparkling bright lights in a bid to raise money for local good causes in the lead up to Christmas.

This is the fourteenth year the church has hosted the festive spectacle and visitors can expect to see 26 trees, beautifully decorated with an assortment of lights.

Tim Watton, co-ordinator of the festival said: “When you walk in to Hope Church, you are surrounded by pine trees covered with bright white lights and the beautifully decorated church in the background. It is breath-taking, an island of peace and inspiration.

“The idea is that we have a number of lit Christmas trees representing a different local charity and are encouraging visitors to pop in and put money in one of the boxes.”

The charities with trees at this year’s festival include the NSPCC, Wyvern Academy, Julia’s House, Weldmar and more.

Visitors will also be treated to live music over the course of the festival with a number of performances from local school choirs, adult singing groups, organ & keyboard recitals, other singers & instrumentalists, and carols by Weymouth Concert Brass Band. Mr Watton added: “The music tends to be traditional carols but there is also some modern Christmas music as well.” Festive treats and refreshments will also be available at the event.

Mr Watton said: “We offer hot lunches, mince pies and teas and coffees, so people feel comfortable and welcomed when they come in.”

The event is free to attend, however, donations to the local charities are welcomed. An information sheet about each charity will be placed next to its designated tree, so visitors can find out more about the charities.

Mr Watton said: “We have established good relationships with each of the charities and they love to come back every year.”

The festival is free to attend and will continue until Saturday, December 16 and the church will be open from 10am until around 4pm.
