Shoppers received a Christmas treat when a special chalet opened in Weymouth.

Families enjoyed a festive show inside the Asda Christmas chalet as well as a selection of refreshments for sale.

Weymouth BID helped to set up the chalet as part of its BIG Christmas celebrations.

It was run by Asda as a promotional opportunity as the supermarket is a big sponsor of the celebrations.

BID chairman Steve Newstead said: “The BID is very happy to have Asda as Gold Sponsor of BIG Christmas Weymouth.

BIG Christmas offers promotional opportunities to businesses through sponsorship of events and entertainment.

Mr Newstead added: “Events such as this show what happens when companies actively engage with the BID to make the town a festive and joyful place for locals and visitors alike.

“We were glad to see so many happy and smiling faces at the Christmas chalet.”

The chalet has now been removed but there are plenty of other activities around the town to join in on, forming part of the BIG Christmas initiative.

The ice rink outside Debenhams is open until New year's Day and children can visit Father Christmas at Santa’s Grotto, situated inside Cineworld.

The cost of the ice rink ranges from £5 for an introductory lesson to £7.50 for a full session. Those who book online may apply for a £1 discount off the full price.

Footfall traffic is forecasted to increase under the BIG Christmas initiative, which has already soared by 75 per cent since 2016.

The Weymouth BID supports businesses in the area through maximising their potential, by raising crucial funds, and reinvesting them in the economy.

The scheme continues to offer businesses such as Asda with the opportunity to sponsor events in Weymouth all year around, such as the Christmas chalet.
