Dorset county Museum will hold a talk on the management of fossil collecting along the west Dorset coastline, led by guest speaker David Sole.

The talk is called 'How best to manage fossil collecting on the Jurassic Coast – the pragmatic approach or the dogmatic?' and takes place on January 10.

David Sole has been a fossil collector for 68 years, and from his experience and insight, he will discuss the impact of the collecting code for west Dorset which was introduced in 1998.

Deemed as the pragmatic approach, Mr Sole evaluates a dogmatic approach, which would require much stricter control, to assess which is the better.

He moved to Swanage in 1969, and began selling fossils surplus to his collection throughout the mid-1970s, and has since become a professional collector and a keen conservationist. He has since relocated to Lyme Regis, which he first visited 63 years before.

Tickets have limited availability due to space restrictions. Tickets cost £5 for non-members are £3 for members, and may be purchased online or booked through the museum shop.
