Eco-friendly pupils from a Poundbury school are using innovative methods to boost their campaign to make Poundbury 'plastic free'.

Last month members of Damers First School's Eco Club, who have been working with Litter Free Dorset Coast and Sea on their Refill Dorset Campaign, wrote their very own 'Refill Rap' to help get their message across.

The students performed their unique campaign rap at the launch of Refill Poundbury scheme - the pupil's campaign to reduce the number of single use plastic bottles in Poundbury.

Businesses that sign up to the scheme agree to fill up people’s water bottles for free aiming to encourage people to have a reusable water bottle rather than reaching for a disposable plastic one.

So far the plucky pupils have managed to get more than 20 businesses to sign up.

Accompanied by actions and a large eco banner, pupils rapped about the benefits of going plastic free and the damage plastic is doing to our oceans.

"Plastic is bad when it enters the sea, it kills our wildlife it's upsetting me. Refill Dorset is the way to go so join in with us and become eco."

Their Refill Rap has now been used by Eco Schools England as their Christmas message for this year.

The global programme shared the rap on their social media sites as well as being emailed out worldwide to 52,500 schools.

Eco Coordinator at Damers First School, Edd Moore said: "In the new year the children hope to work with other schools on the Refill Scheme to get even more businesses to sign up around Dorset as well as working with other schools round the UK.

"They have also decided that they would like the school to have a 'plastic-free status' - using no single use plastic - and they will be working hard next year to achieve this."
