A couple have made a charitable move, and arranged a concert for a national charity.

Victoria Lane and her husband David from Weymouth, have arranged a performance from Guns or Roses, a Guns n Roses tribute band who have previously appeared on the BBC, with support from local acts Danny Adams and Tripod at the Weymouth Pavilion in aid of the Meningitis Research Foundation.

The reason behind this kind act goes back to four years ago, when the couple went back to university to pursue their dream jobs.

The couple moved attended Plymouth university, and were part of the American football team and cheerleading team.

While in the team, they became aware of a tragic event that had happened the previous year.

A much-loved player and friend of the team had passed away in his sleep, and the impact of his loss was seen on the students of Plymouth university.

It was later discovered that he had died of undiagnosed meningitis. an illness which puts students at risk due to mixing closely with groups of unfamiliar people, some of whom may unknowingly carry the bug.

The illness was not well understood by the couple or many of their friends, so when the Meningitis Foundation visited the university to raise awareness, they were intent on trying to help.

The foundation does a lot of work to raise awareness and knowledge to university students, and the couple hope that this event can reach out to more people and prevent one more loss.

The idea to host a concert in Weymouth came from them both being local, and enjoying live music and rock bands.

Victoria and David said: "We thought why not put on a big concert, that will both bring people together for a great night, but also raise awareness and money for the meningitis research foundation."

The event will take place on Saturday, March 24, with tickets costing £16.50 and all proceeds going to the charity.

Victoria and David said: "We really hope people will support this event and come and have a great evening with us on the 24th.

"Three live bands with a monster headline."

MenACWY vaccines are available for free from your GP, and first year students are urged to get them.

Not only do they provide protection from four types of meningococcal meningitis, but also protect others by stopping the spread.
