STAFF at the company behind the major roadworks project on Portland Beach Road are inviting members of the public to come and talk to them.

Workers have started digging up the A354 Portland Beach Road for a new electricity cable replacement project, the first phase of which will take four months.

The work started last week in the area of the Hamm Beach roundabout and is moving towards Wyke Regis over the coming weeks.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) is hosting an information session tomorrow (Tuesday), where people can meet the project team and learn more about the work.

The cable replacement project is affecting traffic along the A354 Portland Beach Road as temporary lights have been set up have been set up are are on through the day and night.

The launch of the project last week caused chaos, with motorists facing lengthy delays.

Work has since moved away from Hamm Beach roundabout, where there were three way-lights, and now there is only two-way lights to control traffic on the causeway.

SSEN is spending £2.6 million on the project to replace 7km of electricity cable which supplies Portland.

When complete, the new cables will make the local network “more robust and resilient and minimise the risk of power cuts for customers”, the company says.

The information session is being held on Tuesday between 2pm-7pm at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy on Portland.
