A new NHS website aiming to help young people in Dorset stay well all year round has launched.

Dorset residents aged between 15-30 are being asked to give feedback on an innovative new website, Stay Well in Dorset, which has been launched to help young people take ownership of their physical and mental health and learn more about the services on offer to them in the county.

The site, which has been launched collaboratively by NHS providers, also carries seasonal advice, such as how to stay well in winter and what to do if you become unwell with a seasonal illness. This comes at a time when the NHS is continuing to face winter pressures across the system.

This site aims to present healthcare, prevention and NHS services to you in a way that’s accessible and easily understood.

A social media campaign has also been developed to support the site, including the use of Facebook profile frames to encourage young people to share the messaging with friends and family.

18-year-old Alex, a student from Dorset, said: “A site that's for young people allows us to easily access the information we need to stay healthy. This site is great and really easy to navigate.”

Dorset GP Dr Sam Abdollahian said: “We want to provide young people with an engaging, jargon-free site that they find helpful and informative, and which gives them the tools to make informed decisions about how they access health care. By doing this we can help ensure our services are sustainable, both now and in the future.

“We’re also very excited to be using social media filters and frames to help young people share our messages in a way they can have fun with. It’s a first for the NHS in Dorset, and something we’re keen to test out and develop further.

“That’s why it’s so important that we hear from Dorset’s young population – we want to make sure we’re providing them with useful, engaging content that will stand them in good stead throughout their lives as NHS users.”

People are invited to give feedback and make suggestions for the Stay Well in Dorset site by visiting staywelldorset.nhs.uk and filling out a short survey, which can be accessed via the feedback button on the site’s navigation bar.
