A vital club is continuing its door-to-door shopping trips thanks to support and funding from Magna Housing.

Dorchester Disabled Club runs monthly shopping trips from Broadmayne, Owermoigne, Maiden Newton, Puddletown and Sandringham Court, into Dorchester town centre.

The club is very popular, with its members always looking forward to a trip into town.

Irene Calcutt, secretary and treasurer of Dorchester Disabled Club, said: “We are committed to helping our elderly villagers with a door-to-door service. Some are frail and need help with their shopping bags and could not cope with public transport. By providing this mini bus service residents can go to the shops without struggling.”

Mr and Mrs Lloyd, Magna residents in Maiden Newton, have been using the service for many years.

Mrs Lloyd said: “We use this bus rather than public transport because it takes you right to your door and is cheaper too.

“But it is more than just a lift into town, they help carry your bags to your door and we have made lots of friends along the way.”

Magna’s community engagement fund (CEF) has donated £500 to the Dorchester Disabled Club to ensure the service can continue.

Neil Bliss, resident and community engagement officer at Magna, added: “We support the communities we are based in and we do as much as we can to support local groups. Dorchester Disabled Club provides a vital service for our elderly residents in rural locations who find getting about more difficult than others.”

Magna has been a long and dedicated supporter of the Dorchester Disabled Club.

In 2015 the company donated £2,000 to the club to ensure the shopping trips could continue.

If your community has an idea for a project or an area that could be improved, it may qualify for CEF funding.
