Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy is hosting a talk by an award-winning kayaker, with funds to go to the RNLI.

Freya Hoffmeister is in the UK doing a speaking tour, and will be at the academy on Friday, February 9 from 7pm until 10pm.

Born in 1964, the German businesswoman and athlete is known as ‘Freya Shakti’, or ‘Goddess of Love to the Seas’ and holder of several sea kayaking endurance records. She has paddled around New Zealand, Australia and South America, with North America her next trip.

She has also undertaken two world’s greatest time sea kayaking continental circumnavigation’s, as well as numerous island’s records to her name.

Freya has claimed several other awards.

Steve Jones, a long time supporter of the RNLI and a keen sea kayaker who runs Southern Sea Kayaks, is organising the talk.

He said: “Freya needs no introduction to most sea kayakers.“This is an excellent opportunity to understand what makes such a serious expedition paddler tick. “Freya will be talking to us about her expedition around South America, and has completed many sea kayak expeditions including a solo circumnavigation of Australia and a record breaking trip around Iceland in 33 days. This is an unmissable opportunity to gain inspiration from a true athlete.”

The talk will be over a three hour period, with a break for refreshments and the opportunity to purchase a signed copy of Freya’s latest book.
