This week Year 5 pupils from St George’s Primary School write about their recent experience at secondary school.

On Tuesday, January 23, Year 5 pupils from St George’s Primary School in Portland went on a coach to the Weymouth secondary school, All Saints .

At All Saints, we took part in a science and a French afternoon.

For science, we learnt about different chemicals and why refresher sweets are so refreshing by doing two experiments with different chemicals in groups of two or three people.

After an hour we all moved into a different classroom to do French. In French we learnt about all the different ingredients that go into making sherbet.

To be able to make the sherbet we had to be able to read French instructions. We also played games to remember the ingredients.

We made the sherbet with bicarbonate of soda, citric acid, icing sugar and had a lollipop to dip in it.

We think the day was absolutely brilliant and it was a real treat to go to another school and learn French and science.

Even though French and science aren't our favourite subjects we still really enjoyed ourselves and discovered how important learning foreign languages can be and how fascinating household objects and food stuff can be.

We think other primary schools should have similar opportunities as us to visit other schools so they know what secondary school is like and prepare for the exciting lessons ahead.
